Stay up to date with Erin's COVID-19 information here:

  • Please wear a mask during any baseline concussion testing!

    • At this time, baseline concussion testing will only be performed for incoming freshman and those who did not have a baseline concussion test last year in attempts to limit contact.

  • No mass hydration will be provided by the school during practices.  Athletes will need to provide their own hydration at this time.  It would be beneficial for athletes to pack multiple water bottles in a cooler for each practice.  SHARING OF DRINKS IS PROHIBITED.

  • Please provide hand sanitizer for your athlete if possible.

  • The consensus among the healthcare community is that wearing masks decreases the spread of COVID-19.  Please wear a mask in the athletic training room.

  • No more than one athlete will be allowed in the athletic training room at a time due to space and social distancing regulations.  Please socially distance while waiting in the hall until there is room for you.

Welcome to the Wapsie Valley High School Athletic Training page!  I am Erin Johnson, a certified and licensed athletic trainer and licensed physical therapist assistant.  I have been working at Rock Valley Physical Therapy and contracted to provide athletic training services at Wapsie Valley High School since August 2015.  I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training from the University of Northern Iowa in 2015 and my Physical Therapist Assistant Degree from Hawkeye Community College in 2016.  I am originally from Belmond, Iowa and currently reside in Waverly, Iowa.
I have always been interested in the health care field, and I was involved in sports through high school.  I care about the well-being of athletes and want to be an advocate for both their physical and mental health.  Watching athletes succeed and achieve their goals in their desired sports is my favorite part of my job.

I am typically at the high school every day during the school year after school until practices are done.  I may be at different practices in different locations throughout the afternoon, so I do not have a set location, but can usually be found in my room during Warrior Hour or right after school.

All aspects of athletic training services provided at Wapsie Valley help to ensure that student athletes are back on the field in a safe and timely fashion after an injury.  I work with the school nurse, physical therapists, and local physicians to collaborate for the best care for your athlete.  All athletes are strongly encouraged to report all injuries to me at the time of the injury or as soon as something is bothering them—minor or major!  Being injured or sick can be a difficult time for any athlete—my job is to make the process a little less stressful by being an advocate and “first line of defense” for your athlete.  Please take a look around the rest of the Athletic Training website to find other useful information and resources.

Athletic training services at Wapsie Valley are provided by Rock Valley Physical Therapy.  We have area locations in Denver and Waverly.  If your athlete has an injury, and I believe they could benefit from physical therapy, I will contact you.  Jennifer Peters, Janelle McCalla, Michelle Breitbach, Jon Woltz, Jonathan Wolff, and I would welcome your athlete at either one of these Rock Valley Physical Therapy clinics to get your athlete back on the field as quickly as possible.  Visit our website at to meet our therapists!
